I graduated college with a degree in television production. I worked in local TV news for a couple of years after I graduated. But then I decided I had a soul and wasn’t willing to continue on that path.

Since then I’ve started my own business. I took my high school and college hobby of being a magician and grown it into something larger. I’ve created a unique and fun attraction for fairs and corporate events called Conjurer Fortune Machine and traveled across the country with it while entertaining at some of the largest fairs in the United States among them the Ohio State Fair, Arizona State Fair and the Orange County Fair. These are enormous fairs. Millions of people. A lot of whom, I’ve been responsible for putting a smile on their face and brightening their day.

I’ve been able to travel to places I’d never see otherwise and be well paid in the process.

Yet you might be surprised to discover, I’m not doing what I’ve always wanted to do. I’m not living my dream. At least not all of it. And while I’m satisfied, I’m not totally fulfilled.

Now don’t get me wrong. I greatly enjoy what I do. I’ve just always felt and known that I’m not living up to my potential. I’m not fulfilling myself with the work my heart has quietly desired for many years.

If John Owens were here he’d look me in the eye, flabbergasted, and ask why not?

My deepest desire has always been to help other people learn to communicate better, learn to interact with each other more effectively and give people a different perspective on the challenges they face.

I want to help people.

So why do I bother climbing in a box and portraying a goofy character for fairs? Because, I like the people I work with. In fact, I love the people I work with. The relationships I’ve built have been the greatest reward of working in the fair industry.

What’s next then?

First of all, let me be clear. I am not in anyway leaving the fair industry. That part of our company is going to continue to grow and flourish. The network Sara and I have built runs deep and there’s no way we’ll walk away from that.

On the contrary, we’re expanding Robert Smith Presents. This expansion will enable both me and Sara to chase our passion for helping and supporting others. What that means for me specifically is further development of speaking engagements and keynotes.

It’s been a long time desire to share my experiences and knowledge with others and frankly, I need to apologize to all of you for suppressing this. My greatest goal in unleashing the person I’ve always wanted to be is helping you discover the person you’ve always wanted to be.

The speaking topics we’re currently developing are funny, they’re motivating, they may even include a little magic. But most of all, they are being designed for you, about you and because of you.

I can’t hardly contain my excitement about this new adventure and I want to invite you to be a part of it.

In order to best accommodate this new addition, we’re planning some website and social media changes in the near future. Follow me on (@MeetRobertsmith) on Facebook and Twitter to stay updated.

Give yourself permission to be amazing today.
